    The St. Petersburg Conference on World Affairs was launched in 2013 by USF Professor Thomas Smith and retired U.S. Ambassador Douglas McElhaney, with the purpose of educating students and local citizens about pressing international issues of the day. The St. Petersburg World Affairs Council (SPWAC), a member of the Education-Focused World Affairs Councils of America, continues in that spirit of open discussion and debate.
