St. Petersburg World Affairs Council
SPWAC bridges the local and the global, bringing the world to our community.  

December 10 is International Human Rights Day, the day in 1948 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This December 10 at 6 pm, all are invited to a public reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, at the base of the St. Pete Pier, 800 – 2nd Ave NE.

December 14, 3-5 pm, at the Cathedral Church of St. Petersburg, do not miss SPWAC’s presentation of the electrifying pianist Vince di Mura (Princeton University composer-in-residence) performing “Hotel Ritz,” his tribute to 1930s jazz from Shanghai to Paris!  Violist Jing Yang will accompany Vince in this world chamber premiere. Seats still available for SPWAC Member pricing and general admission tickets.

Coming in 2026, SPWAC presents:

January 15, 10-11:30 am, “Strong U.S. Diplomacy in a Changing World,” a discussion with John Dinkelman, President of the American Foreign Service Association. Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, 110 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg. Free event but must register. Registration opens December 15. 

February 10-11, SPWAC annual Conference on World Affairs. Themed “Outer Space: International Collaboration and Competition,” local NASA Astronaut Nicole Stott will keynote at the USF-St. Petersburg Student Center, 200 – 6th Ave S.  Details below.  Tickets on sale in December.

 

SPWAC is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America, a nonprofit network of 90+ foreign affairs education-focused organizations.  We offer at least 12 programs annually in St. Petersburg – expert lectures, concerts, book talks, films, and international travel opportunities.  Special pricing for SPWAC members.
